Sweet Sixteen

This week one of our rod builds was delayed by 1 degrees.  When Andy the Redneck/Perfectionist positioned the name decal it was 1 degrees off straight. Andy said no one else could possibly have noticed it but he could and he couldn’t handle it. It was causing him sleepless nights and me too, because I was getting many messages about it also.  So off it came. Second one on and the same thing happened again! And so that one came off too! These decals we have printed for us are sticky-backed, not waterslides. I’ve ordered 7 new personal name decals for 3 rods. I hope that this will be enough!

We are looking at a sexy printer for waterslides and testing labels from this printer, which if successful will speed up this part of the process. And will also allow for minor alignment adjustments!

It turns out that Andy and I are the perfect fit! Nothing goes out that he is not completely enthralled by, and, as you know, it can take me ten years to finalise a blank in the first place! Between us it’s a miracle that we can produce any Sexyloops rods at all!

But this is what we want. We want to make the best rods possible so that you can beat them up! You’ve seen my rods; you know how hard I fish them!! Sexyloops rods should start out by looking absolutely stunning. And then decades later, look like they have been to Hell and back many times over. Perfect!

This Tornado 6 here shipped off to Pennsylvania.  Talking of which I haven’t cast with the owner yet. So I must sort that out!! I meet all owners for a Zoom casting session where we can cover anything you/they want, chat fly fishing and put the world straight.

Tornado 7 to Florida

The perfect Redfish/Bass/Snook rod for Florida! And probably trophy-sized fish of each. 🙂

Rickard wrote last week that this is his favourite HT. For me this would be a really nice bonefish rod. I use to say that “the 8 is a cannon with finesse”, well “the 7 is a rocket with finesse!”

Fast, yes, but with the right amount of give in the butt so that you don’t damage yourself and can find accuracy even with longer range shots.

When my wife and I become pirates (and you can join us), I suspect my HT7 will become a real goto number.

For Saltwater I really like fishing the SA Bonefish Amplitude Smooth in 6/7/8 wts on their respective rod numbers. It’s a true-to-weight line. This rod was designed using the SA MED7, which is also true-to-weight. And it will throw this line over 145’! (With practise)

In this part of the world, all the way from Florida across to Texas, the Tornado 7 really is a flagship model for us.

Stunning craftsmanship as always from Andy the Redneck. Hand crafted in Texas by a Redneck. Designed in a Malaysian jungle by a Yeti. There is more beard involved in the Tornado 7 than any other fly rod in today’s market.

Every rod comes with a Zoom cast and a 1 in 666 chance of winning a pirate fly fishing holiday (baggy shirts will be provided).

Tornado 6 Full Wells

This was our first blank finished, the HT6, the one that involved Divine Intervention, which came by a way of an unlikely subject, Stefan Siikavaara, who managed to blow up a prototype model in a Scottish Snowstorm.  By strengthening up the entire third section we have the blank you feel today.

Over the next twelve months I put the prototypes through hundreds and hundreds of people’s hands. Entered them into competitions — I took mine to the World Championships, which arguably I might have won if it wasn’t for Stefan’s hand again; by putting super slick lubricant over Sakari and my flylines, making them so slick that we couldn’t haul them! But that’s another story!

9’ #6 really was a rod I knew well. It was my goto fishing rod class for 20 summers’ fishing in New Zealand. So I knew what I wanted. If I was a marketing guru then at this point I would say I got better than I wanted! Which we did of course 🙂

So thanks, Stefan!!

Usually we fit these as standard with a half wells cigar-shaped grip. But about 1 in 10 customers request full wells. Particularly for Imaginary Saltwater fly fishing. The fighting butt is handy for keeping sand out the reel. For me it doesn’t make a difference to performance but I know that for others it does matter.

Andy is very busy. I am too actually, which is why I’m quite a few rods behind here 😀

Email me on paul@sexyloops.com or Whatapp +60198549552 to discuss your next exciting Sexyloops rod. Remember every rod comes with a Zoom casting meeting and a 1 in 666 chance of going on a pirate fly fishing adventure holiday. Cutlasses will be provided.

Wonderful craftsmanship from Andy the Redneck. Minimalist on thread wraps and epoxy…

Cheers, Paul
