Whitney’s Tornado

Whitney is a good friend and one of the best distance casters I’ve seen. She is off to the Worlds in Italy this month. I hope she has a fantastic tournament!

Oversized fighting butt as special request and a feature that Andy and I will give a Podcast on soon.

Whitney and I have been working together on 5WT distance for about two and a half years. A wonderful double-handed Spey caster. And she also has a wonderfully smooth 170 stroke

The Tornado 10 is also a Comp 5WT as everyone now knows and understands well! It also doubles up for Permit and occasionally Tarpon too!!

For Imaginary Saltwater fishing it’s become difficult to find a true to weight 10WT line. I personally use the Infinity Salt. 9.5 for quick shots. If the fly is bigger then the 10.5. Originally it was designed with a RIO technical tarpon line with a 60’ head, that was true to weight and is now discontinued!

Many 5WT distance casters at the WCs choose this rod for Trout Distance. I particularly like it compared to other 10WTs because it’s quite comfortable at picking up a relative short length of line under control. I set the British record with mine some years back. Then Bart beat mine with his HT10. Nick has since beaten that one with the HT5!

Best of luck to Whitney, Rickard and Joel. 😎

HT6/Tornado6

I’m catching up here!! This is the one, the SL flagship rod where God came down and lent a hand. And we have spent the last 10 or 12 years trying to replicate it in other line weights.

Really, a 6WT has been my goto line weight for most of my life. Go-to particularly in NZ. But it’s also a good all-round trout weight, certainly if you are going to fish bigger flies. Quite frankly, nowadays my goto trout rod is a 4WT. The 6 is still what I would fish in NZ however.

It’s also the Instructor version that I cast every day, and on my original HT6 I mount a SA Bonefish line to in order to chase Gourami here in the jungle.

I’m not sure I’ll ever make a better rod. I’ll certainly never make a finer 6WT! And I have no need to.

For me I like the true to weight stuff. SA MED, Expert Trout and Bonefish are the floating lines that I use on this rod. I used to drop a line weight for competitions, before comp distance casters (myself included) started dropping 5 or more line weights!

But as a pure fishing 6WT I don’t think there is anything better. In fact, for me, I don’t think there ever will be. And I hope to live a very long life!!!

My HT6 is one of the original builds. Serial no4. I think Trev or Lee did some magic too at one point and I’ve certainly replaced the tip once.

Andy’s builds are exceptional. I must get one for myself! I haven’t seen anything like it.

All rods come with a Zoom lesson and a 1 in 666 chance of becoming a pirate. Parrots are included. Email me on paul@sexyloops.com or WhatsApp +60198549552

Tornado 5

Wow. This is a nice looking rod! Custom grip and removable fighting butt. A beautiful Tornado 5 off to one of our regulars. I can’t wait to see the photos of the fish this rod catches!

This 5WT blank took me an extraordinary amount of time,  as you may remember. This one actually took me over ten years! The only thing that happens quickly in my world is the Snakehead Shot.

If you want an Andy-build we can ship outside of USA too. Just let me know. The shipping is included in the price for US deliveries (the Tornado is built in Texas). And for shipping EU builds the price is included too. However for shipping a US build abroad there is an extra $100 fee because couriers charge more!

Drop me an email on paul@sexyloops.com or WhatsApp me on +60198549552 and we can discuss.

Remember every rod comes with a Zoom Cast meeting with me where we can cast together and discuss fishing. And a chance of winning a pirate fly fishing holiday. Eye patches will be provided.

Cheers, Paul
