When it can’t get any hotter…

When it can’t get any hotter…

I’ve been enjoying my Zoom coaching sessions. I have many this week and we are certainly in busy times. That 7am slot (my time) is definitely a favourite. I’m not sure how many more students I can handle. Not very many more that’s for sure. Really enjoyable however and lots of variety with so many students in long term coaching plans. I’m not sure what I’ll do when I’ve reached my student limit. I’ve been thinking about that coming-soon problem for some time now.

Mika and Satu are settling in. They are loving the 40 degree plus temperature difference! No fish yet but as we say at Sexyloops, it’s all about to happen. (Six-pound Sean’s immortal words just as he’s about to launch the Woolly Bugger or fall in).

The weather here has finally broken here and we are either dodging or getting nailed by afternoon  thunderstorms every afternoon. This should herald termites and the Giant Gourami Gods. I have two of Graeme’s Hird’s insomniac Braid Leaders drying on the back of the Battleship. They haven’t fully dried yet and I’m hoping they don’t take the three weeks to dry that they do in Perth. In fact I’m thinking of covering them in axle grease and passing them to Mika just in case. Otherwise only I will be ready for when it happens!

Mika was here two years ago when he experienced this amazing fishing. It can be quite intense. When I spooked a particularly large gourami, by being slightly to the side of it as the barstool changed direction, the repeated FUs that came from my side of the boat certainly surprised Mika. So much so that he actually stopped filming and almost climbed out over the bow of the boat :D :D

But it’s that sort of intensity that I love about fly fishing shots.

Tonight we will have a campfire. I can’t be too late however because I have a new chap on Zoom at 7.15am. Looks like this guy can certainly throw too!

Fingers crossed our Hot Torpedo/Tortuga stock finally lands in Spain this week. If anyone in the UK, or Asturias for that matter, fancies a ferry ride delivering our stock I’ll certainly cover costs and then some. Trying to ship anything from UK to EU is a nightmare. I’ll be very grateful when we are manufacturing in the EU again. I have quite a queue of rod builds now. And then we will be flying again!!

Have a great week. I’m going for a quick dip in the 34.4C water and then going fishing. It’s 38C in the boat today.

Cheers, Paul
