Tiang

Tiang

Just out from Sungai Tiang. Considering the amount of rain that’s fallen recently it was surprisingly clear. We had a group fishing from Ipoh. They only fished the lower sections. I fished one afternoon rainy spell with a dry and a nymph combination. Many fish looked at the dry…. As in MANY!! But only a few ate it and stuck, and a couple more came to the nymph. I’m sure with some tweaking of the dry fly it will be some awesome sport. The challenge is whether to go bigger or smaller. Smaller you hook more fish, bigger you tend to catch the bigger ones. Decisions decisions.

This river is strictly fly only, C&R, barbless hooks. I believe this is the first river in Malaysia where this is the case. It’s interesting to me how much better the river gets every year; the fish get bigger and there are more of them.

After the wet season has dropped its final drop, sometime in January (or even late Dec), the river will clear and it will provide some wonderful fishing.

This coming year I hope to spend more time again and I hope that you come and visit. Please email me and I can help you plan your trip.

All profits go to the local village community.

Fong, head of Perak State Parks, my ex-neighbour and current occasional houseguest, also came up the river overnight and brought his daughter. Fong has a wonderful talent where if something falls overboard he will leap into the water to save it. It would be handy if he stayed on the Battleship because I’ve lost many things over the side. This trip he dramatically saved a net.

Short FP from me today. I’m renewing my Malaysian Long Term Spouse Visa. Which is always surprisingly complicated.

Have a great week!

Cheers, Paul
