Three Casts

Three Casts

Well it’s not very often I catch three fish in three casts. At least not here in Malaysia. I did once catch 8 fish in three casts at Ardleigh Reservoir but that’s a very different story!

It’s not uncommon here of course to make the first shot count. That’s actually how it should be. But three times in a row, over the course of two evenings, I don’t think I’ve ever done before. In fact I’m quite sure I haven’t because I would almost certainly remember it.

What has been nice is to find sets of babies again. This was unexpected. Not that it doesn’t happen at this time of year; it does. It’s just that this year isn’t like any of the other past 10 years that I’ve been on the lake full-time. And everything was feeling about 2 months behind. So to find babies at the right time was surprising.

So two Snakehead off babies first cast. And a freeriser first cast. One of the first freerisers of the year for me (now that really is tremendously behind where it should be). So good stuff. And thank goodness actually, because I have a guest arriving about a month from now — Peter from Down Under is returning for more Snakehead action — and I was wondering if it would be a slow adventure, but all being well he’ll hit it just right for the mid-year fishing. Fingers crossed!

I was planning on buying a new Battleship Motor after Peter’s visit. But I believe it’s going to happen sooner. My 85HP 2 stroke has now decided it’s time to retire. So now I need to quickly source and fit a new motor — a 115HP 4 stroke. Otherwise there will be a lot of rowing involved when Peter arrives and the Battleship is not designed to be rowed.

I’m down in KL for some swimming. Have a great week!

Cheers, Paul
