The Wind Is Winding...
---Alaina Williams Cookson
Last year about this time, I was scrolling through some real estate listings on the Zillow real estate website. I am always on the lookout for a "deal" on a piece of land on the Texas coast...or at least CLOSER to the coast than I am now. It just so happened that there was a small piece of property in Port Lavaca that appeared to be in my price range and was within walking distance of the water. I made a phone call to the number listed in the ad and was greeted by an agent in Magnolia Beach named Alaina Cookson. As it turns out, the piece of land in question had some undesirable attributes due to its isolated location, so the decision was made to take a hard pass on this particular piece of land.
Alaina and I, however, have remained in touch, and have become pretty good friends. Whenever an interesting piece of property pops up for sale, it's nice to know I have someone local that I can trust to shoot straight with me on a property, since I live so far away. Interestingly enough, her husband has a drone photography business that she utilizes in her real estate job, and lucky for me....he has some REALLY good aerial footage of my favorite fishing spots in and around Powderhorn Lake.
This morning as I walked into the shop to fill some epoxy orders, I noticed I had a few updates on my FB feed, one of which was from Alaina. It was a short video related to her real estate business, where very obviously to all that watched, the Texas wind was absolutely pounding the coastline. I had to giggle to myself a little bit when she described the ferociousness of the conditions as "THE WIND IS WINDING". Believe me when I tell you any fisherman knows EXACTLY what she meant. In fact, just last night I texted Phil Blackmar to check conditions in Corpus, since Jack is now out of school and we've been desperately needing a trip to the coast. When I inquired with Phil about the conditions, his reply was succinct and simple "30-40mph". Not only are those conditions almost unfishable, they are downright dangerous. To that end, Jack and I decided to stay local and fish for Bass tomorrow morning on a small, private body of water. Hopefully the wind won't be winding nearly as bad up here in the highlands as it is down on the coast.
Hope you all are having a great week,
Andy
