Is when Mother Nature is generous, the stars align, and I can be an interloper.

Spring trout fishing here is well under way with the may fly hatches thick and overlapping at times - each hatch peaks and then concludes with a spinner fall, which is my favorite type of fishing. March Browns are close to being history for this year so this past week was perfect for a couple of fine afternoons fishing in and around the last of their spinners.  We have an enviable population of gorgeous, stream bred Rainbow trout seeded by just one stocking - a more or less accidental stocking a long, long time ago of California strain Rainbow trout - once thought to b efrom the McCloud river, recently it has been decided they are San Pedro fish. No matter where their bloodline started, they can get impressively aggressive when feeding on big spinners - not your typical dainty, quiet sipping rises. Spinners floating prone, riding out their last moments in the surface film flip their wings one last time and a trout pounces on it - chomps it !
