Thai Trip

Thai Trip

Paul Arden | Tuesday, 19 March 2024

Ashly and I haven’t been to Thailand for quite some years now. In the past we used to go regularly, often car topping up the boat up and launching off the beach. She is in-between jobs, leaving Belum Rainforest Resort and moving to Marriott’s in Perhentian, where she plans to do her PHD in Business Management. So that sounds like a good excuse for a trip. Curiously vaping is illegal in Thailand, but recreational pot is legal! We are taking the bikes up, and plan to go swimming, running and biking. Where we will go exactly, I have no idea. We will see where the Snakehead Truck takes us. I fully intend to avoid other tourists!!!

We have a few lumilines left and they have gone like hot cakes! There are only about 8 lines left now. Nick bought 8 of them! Many others have bought two to reenact Star Wars. I’m also holding a couple back just in case the post goes awry. Very very busy at the moment. We have a new website coming, not exactly tomorrow but very soon. Rod production is moving to Spain, where the Hot Torpedo will become the Hot Tortuga, which also allows me to do some work on the decals! And I’m flat out Zoom Casting coaching — since the US is in Summer time and days are getting longer, if not exactly warmer.

I had a very enjoyable meet with two of my long term fly casting PhD students last week, David and Mark. Mark is an Aussie living in Senegal and David is from L.A. and was visiting Senegal… and so I put them together. That was a very enjoyable Zoom session!! We did aerilised Snaps and Snakes. Advanced stuff indeed!

OK must get organised. We will of course be taking fly rods to Thailand. They have Giant Snakehead in freshwater and I don’t know what in the Salt. I don’t even know where we will end up. If you are after one of the few remaining lumilines they are 100USD including shipping. They’ll all be gone soon, which is great because this money goes towards the new and very exciting Sexyloops website!! Email me at paul@sexyloops.com to buy yours. The shopping cart is currently being rebuilt!

I had a tough week on the fish. I realised this week, that staying on the same fish simply doesn’t work. Here there are three sets of babies and after the first day I could not get any interest out of them whatsoever. I think I caught one of them when Tim was here. I did however catch a colourful free-riser this morning. About 2.5Kg and very unusual to have these juvenile colours on a fish of this size. It gave me some line burns to remember him by as well.

Next week we start part two of the flycasting video manual.: Drills and Exercises for training. This will be very good for my teaching purposes and hopefully useful for everyone else as well!

Have a great week :D

Cheers, Paul
