Start of 2023 BFCC Events

Tracy&James | Sunday, 26 March 2023

The first BFCC event of 2023 has been quite eventful! Several records have been broken, Bart had the overall win, coming first in 6 of the seven disciplines, and lots of casters had a great day getting fantastic instruction from Mike and Mark. We had some strong winds, but lots of heavy showers and the wind was often turbulent causing several of the casters to have problems with side winds.

Starting with the heavy gear, Steve Parkes blitzed the T120 competition winning with a cast of 216 feet. Then Bart won the S55 and the T38, however several others did PBs too and Mick took a new V80 record in the S55g event.

Following this, the afternoon competitions were won by Bart who also took the senior #7 record from James with a cast of 147ft 5 in (but not the overall record of 150ft that James still holds). With Steve and James taking most of the second and third places, it was clear who was the overall winner, but not necessarily who was in second place.

The accuracy event took place at the end of the day in dry sunny weather and light winds. Everyone had a go and, using the new WC rules, all cast well. Bart had the best score, followed by James but Steve came lower down the list. So on review of all the scores, James and Steve scored the same in the overall competition however as Steve won the T120, he wins the second overall place on count back.

It was worth noting that Mick took another 3 records in the V80 category - #5, #7 and ST27; and one of the BFCC newest and youngest member, Callum won the ST27 J17 record, casting 145ft 6in, that James Hek had held for almost 10 years. Well done to Mick and Callum and to Bart and Steve for such fantastic casting. Thanks to Mark and Mike for providing tuition all day in often wet and muddy conditions; abundant thanks have already been given by those who attended.

The next planned BFCC event in in Kent in late May, however we may arrange another before then. In the meantime James, Steve, Stewart, Nick and I are going to Cumbria next week to compete in the UK Champs. So hopefully we’ll have good weather and the opportunity to break some UK records, however whatever happens we’ll have a great time in a beautiful location with fantastic friends.

Whatever you are doing this week, enjoy

Cheers
