This weekend James and I have been casting at the Scottish Game Fair in Scone Palace near Perth. We are running the fly casting competitions there and as usual James and the other volunteers and instructors have been casting lots of different outfits around hosting the public. As I write this, James and Chris (Avery) are both casting, one on the grass with a single handed rod and the other on the pontoon with a double handed outfit. There are other casters taking it in turns too and some have been practising on the accuracy event. There quite a bit of alcohol involved too.
The show has been busy and lots of fun with a good number of competitors, many of whom have been for instruction before coming to have a go. There's more entrants in the daily competitions, however we currently have three juniors competing to win the Junior championship, who are going to come back to improve their scores tomorrow. The prize for the winner is a £100 voucher for Celestial fly lines. The prize for the male senior winners is a voucher for wading boots worth £220. All winners and two runners-up will be invited to the Blenheim Game Fair at the end of July to compete in the Grand Final with the Blenheim winners.
The weather here has been typically mixed for a Game Fair with frequent rain showers, glimpses of sunshine and variable winds either strong on a casters right side or slight breezes that regularly turn into a head wind for them. However the evenings have been colder than anticipated for June, in fact those of us camping have all been discussing how chilly it has been over night, with some of us resorting to wearing a woolly hat as well as lots of clothes to bed. Maybe it's time to get a camper van!
It's been lovely catching up with everyone and meeting new people. Some of the competitors have been to previous GFs and it's good to see them and catch up about their fishing antics. We have another day of this show, so will be completing the comps tomorrow and then driving a very long way to get home. Hoping to get some river fishing in during the week, as the weather has been lovely back home in Wales.
Whatever you are doing this weekend, enjoy
Cheers
