Remote Anchorage

Remote Anchorage

Paul Arden | Friday, 5 July 2024

I’m way way down the lake looking for freerisers. Unfortunately there is a huge Orang Asli camp where I wanted to fish, so I’ve come to another remote bay; one of my favourites actually. There were snakehead rising here this morning but mostly small. Hopefully I will find some bigger ones this evening, otherwise we’ll move the boat again tomorrow.

It’s been a strange year; a good start with two 6+KG Toman, a decent Gourami a few weeks ago, but the last few months have been very odd indeed, first with very high water temps with Mika was over here, and now temps that are lower than normal…! WTF?!

Anyway, yesterday I discovered that MrG(5) the friendly fish Gourami that lives with me on the Battleship, loves durian! He’s not as keen on cheese as the other gouramis, and strangely doesn’t like big ants, but durian seems to be a hit.

I have a big and exciting announcement to make next week on the Hot Torpedo/Tortugas that really is a game changer for adventurous anglers who fall down gorges. And we will have the new Sexyloops website up and running in some weeks soon. This is looking great, and I had a long chat with the web designer this morning. It’s really starting to take shape now.

Today Mika is away and I’ve just uploaded a video on reducing friction when casting by turning the rod rings out. This only applies to wire rings of course, ceramics don’t require this. I’ve talked about it many times before; it helps shoot line on the backcast as well as prevents haul lockup on the forward cast. I’ve fished my rods like this for so long I can’t believe anyone does it differently. But they must because when someone picks up my rod for a cast they always straighten it!!!

Have a great Friday! Zoom Lesson for me tonight but I’ll sneak a quick fish beforehand.

Cheers, Paul
