Last weekend we had first reindeer slaughter and reindeer season is opened now. Mondsy I was able to "finish" paddock extension as I made gate so now it is "ready". Well I have to fix gate, make 3 more gate from old to new and I need built other extension for our boys on other paddock. So lot of work still be done.
This week has been really rainy so I didn't mind to be shortly in military service. Weekend looks really wet also and as temperatures are around 6 celsius it will be mostly indoor life. It gives time to read and maybe finish book I started to read now and then. Book is "Fit to fish, how to tackle fishing injuries". I don't know if you know the book, it tells how some injuries will come during casting and fishing, how to avoid them and if you got one how to recover. I think writers are doctor and physiotherapist and both do fly fishing and have been given treatment to fisherman.
It has been interesting book so far. Some of recovery instructions are obvious as those streches should be daily based if you have active life and sports. While reading book I notice that my "reindeer work" can make similar symptoms with golf and tennis elbow. It was easy to connect some of them to driving quad in heavy terrain. Useful book, looking forward what else I will find out when reading forward.
I have a little stress from coming Monday. I have guiding day for 3 person. I think they are beginners so we do some casting training first for sure. Then we should do some fishing and that's where my stress comes.
Our lake, it is not easiest one to cast for total rookie, not even from boat as our boat is not super stable. Decks will work for roll cast and as fish could be close to shore you have change to reach them. Still it will require decent roll or spey cast to reach far enough.
River, water temp is now around 7 celsius, trouts are spawning or finished it. So that takes wading off, as I don't want take any risk that we would destroy eggs and beds. On other hand grayling won't probably be on those areas as bigger ones has surely moved on calmer and deeper water now. As those waters are too deep to wade and shores are filled with trees, our casting options goes again for roll or spey, and now you need good casts to reach. I have one smaller river on mind which could give as some mercy, but it is little more difficult to reach.
Then comes biggest corcern, weather. Forecast is that it will be cloudy, that's okay. It will be also windy, that's not okay as there won't be activity combined with clouds. And biggest issue will be that wind is from north which means cold and that's why air temperature is around 3 celsius. So surely it won't be dry or die - day. It has to be small streamers and nymphs, which will be okay as weather is what it is.
Even fishing with those it will be hard day, waters are not high, so we will get lot of contact from earth for sure, I just need to figure out how to get fish to join at least little on this one. They say "pride goes before a fall". Guiding on Monday is good example from that, I knew that circumstances can be exactly like it will be, I took risk that it would not. I knew all the water options so I had knowledge, my pride to beat this made me say, it could be doable fishing. And now my fall is getting closer, I have two days to figure out how to stand.
Have a nice weekend and go fishing
Mika, man just before fall :D
