Tuesday I had icefishing guiding. Weather was something,beautiful sunshine, no wind…. and -20 celcius. Our luck was that there was no wind so it was not so bad that it could be. Absolutely beautiful day. Fishing, well it was like normally on this time of the year, difficult, hard or whatever, not even bite. And still it was one the best fishing trips I have made.
I had change to guide passionate fisherman from Switzerland. We had great chat around fishing, how it is in Switzerland and how it is in Finland. Different kind of fishing, techniques, species etc. I have missed that kind of talk. It is not only to share my knowledge, it is also to learn and got ideas. I have to say, I got few. I saw few ”flies” that he is using on back home when fishing whitefish. Those were quite similar what I use also and then he had few ”flies” which he use for perch.
I have seen similar ones before, this time I was watching different eyes and I think that I need to get/make somehow similar ones. Those were kind of small streamers but no body at all, just kind of net thru the hook which gave shape of streamer and wing at same time, kind of minnow without eyes. And of course again I was stupid enough not to take a photo.
I don’t know when I learn that I had to take photo each time I see fly which could be worth to try in summer. Somehow I think that I can remember those flies and at the same time not. There is about two and half weeks left for high winter season, then I start flytying again. I will be ready for summer and I have to tye something for Sungai Tiang also.
I do have one worry, which is not again. Two years ago we booked flights to Paris to have holiday and Covid hit the world. Now I’m booking flights to Malaysia and it looks like that something hit the world again. We postponed our Varzina trip from 2020 to 2023, even that looks like uncertain today. I just have to have patience, Malaysia is still closed and I’m keeping fingers crossed that it will be open on May and we can go.
