In The Company of Bugs

In The Company of Bugs

This evening I fished for trout in a river that is not a trout river, says New York state < they are mostly correct.

River 2

River 1

While it is not stocked, it's tributaries are - voilå, the river holds trout. It's a big, low gradient river known for Smallmouth bass especially once it crosses into Pennsylvania. The Susquehanna River.  With the ever popular Catskill rivers made recently more so by the major hatches coming into peak, multiplied by the energy build up of Memorial Day weekend, I decided to take the day off from my usual trout neighborhood and check in on 'the river of no trout'. I found two, albeit lil' cookie cutter cuties, feeding on the surface. With luck, in about four years time they will be bragging sized Browns, which do make an appearance in the spring (just not this time out... ). For this year and the next couple they'll munch on bugs, eventually graduating to the big stuff.
