Gourami Time

Gourami Time

Paul Arden | Monday, 2 January 2017

I've now finished my month of running my mate's Rainforest Bar for the Xmas season and we're down in Kuala Lumper to pick up some important stuff - such as a waterproof camera for shooting Jungle Moments for SLTV, big waterproof bags, wire for Snakehead, hooks for Gourami and a small list of other things. The monsoon appears to have virtually missed Belum-Temenggor, which means it's either coming in late or not at all. What this means for the summer fishing later in the year, I have no idea, but I think it might actually be better.

As soon as we are back later in the week, the real fishing will begin. Our first mission will be to fish the complete Temenggor lake, every bay, every cove, check out every stump and every snag. It's quite a mission, but important to establish what is going on this year. It will take a month. Hopefully in this time we will be finding Gourami - this is the main target for January. Any Snakehead we find will be a bonus, but we should be finding a few at the top of narrow bays.

In a couple of weeks the Cicadas should be around, which is something I've been looking forward to since March last year! If it's anything like last year I'll be able to make big inroads into really setting about these fish and it should be very exciting. Finally things are all about to happen, and I can't wait. This is the opportunity to really work on developing day-time Gourami leaders.

I wish you all the best for 2017 and I hope this will be your best year of fishing so far!

Cheers, Paul
