We are still busy with German guests at farm. I'm taking care of most German groups. Satu take care some other groups and she is also baking... a lot. Every visitor will have kampanisu which is traditional cookie in our area.
So if my written English is not so great, I'm speaking it better. I hope. And also my German is getting better, not really speaking except some basic things and I do know lot of special words around subject. Some German guests says that I have good German, that is not true but my German is easily better than their Finnish. So I win.
I got short notice and urgent request for ice fishing for today. I was little worried about weather, beginning of week it has been -27 celsius so it is cold weather for ice fishing. Luckily it will be only -10 or something like that on Friday when we are going.
Idea has been on my mind few weeks already. People are using more and more sonar devices with ice fishing. I have used them also when doing boat fishing, it is of course helpful device especially on new waters.
Thought that I would get sonar which are useful during ice fishing has been somehow against my princiles. Something like that study maps, make clusions and work hard. I have had during the years some guests who had sonar when fishing and it has been giving more exciting moments now and then. They had trust my knowledge about where to fish, and when they had sonar they could see that when fish are coming and so on. It has been kind of sight fishing.
You can do real life sight fishing while ice fishing on shallow and clear water, when you start to have two meters water then sonar will be your help. We are going after Easter to north for fishing holiday. During Easter there will reindeer race finals and we go to watch those and then having cabin next to lake for one week. It is really great area for grayling, whitefish, also trout and char are a possible catch. I know water where to fish, we have been there earlier. So grayling and whitefish I can do without sonar, those I will find from shallow waters around island.
But trout and char, I need to find certain banks and some deeper waters, those I know about and yet with sonar I can check if those are really spots to fish. Other reason why I planned to get sonar is our lake. I know that there are good size fish, but I have had difficulties to find them mid-winter. I really want to solve this issue, so maybe sonar will help me to solve some of those hideouts that fish have.
So today I will test sonar while ice fishing with guest, I'm kind of excited about that even if it is against my principles. On the other hand principles are something which holds us back. We hide behind them and get stuck, in some cases principles are our worst enemies. That goes also with flyfishing.
