Blimey, Lasse sent me a video today from a friend (I thought) claiming that I had stolen a drill from him and attributed it to someone else!!! :D
Loops into waves goes at least as far back as 2001 when Carl Hutchinson was using it and 2007 when Lee Cummings was using it as the initial part of his Triangle Method of coaching. For me I started using it as a beginners’ drill after a) Graeme Hird explained his teaching application and results and b) I moved from direct instruction to a constraints-led approach. But it's been around for a very long time and I would be very surprised if it doesn't predate Sexyloops.
I don’t think any of these fine people above claim to have invented any of these things either. Lee will tell you that the Triangle Method is a combination of something Bill Gammel and Joan Wulff were doing. Carl was citing papers from 50 years ago when discussing his “wave packet” theory. (Carl first came up with the term “pullback” incidentally, but I’m quite sure that Mel Krieger was doing this as part of his casting stroke, because one of his drills is what I use to teach it!). And Graeme will tell you that he was inspired by Carl’s teaching.
It’s incredible how people managed to get their panties in a twist without knowing all the facts. Why they would not contact me first to ask, is very strange. Everyone else does and I’m very easy to contact! It would certainly have been less time-consuming to send an email than edit a video!
Anyways things are good here. Graeme (a different Graeme and a Kiwi this time) managed to land another excellent Snakehead on his trip, on the final evening, with the “frog from heaven” approach. We certainly worked hard for them!
There are a lot of Snakehead babies around at the moment and the numbers seem to be increasing. There appears to be some more Wet Season coming and the rising water level encourages Snakehead to spawn. I have guests next week, mid Feb and end of March booked. I can accept more, so if you are up for an incredibly difficult casting shot challenge then drop me an email! I haven’t seen this many Snakehead babies on the lake in six years.
I’m very busy casting coaching at the moment. Arguably I’m probably full now. But do get in touch if you are interested in some long term coaching. I might be able to squeeze in one more in depending on your time zone.
When I guide we are on the water fishing 12 hour days. But when I fish myself it’s usually 3-5 hrs. I enjoy the full days but can’t justify them unless I’m getting paid! So more guests please so that we can make the most out of the excellent opportunities at the moment!!! But… you need to have ingrained the Snakehead shot otherwise you won’t catch any fish. If you haven’t done this yet, then think about next year!
Have a great week!
Cheers, Paul
