Finally a Drill!

Finally a Drill!

This week’s Masterclass 2 video includes a drill, or possibly an exercise, or most likely a drill that turns into an exercise! Nowadays I think this is the first drill to do when first learning to flycast, but it’s not a bad exercise for anyone looking to tighten up their loops (or learn the underhand/pendulum/inverted loop!).

The other exciting thing about this video is that you can see how fast the sun sets in Malaysia! Blink and you’ll miss it, apart from which, finding your way home again afterwards can be a problem, especially if you don’t know where you are when it happens.

Ashly and I are in Sabah, East Malaysia. Heading back to peninsular Malaysia today. We are celebrating her birthday, which isn’t actually until tomorrow. Then I get a bike fit in KL and it’s back to the jungle.

It’s been enjoyable, but I have to say my life feels more like on holiday when I’m not on holiday!! Holidays are work. They take planning and, unless it’s a fishing holiday, there is not enough fishing. And then there are the markets to visit. I hate markets. In fact, unless it’s for fly fishing tackle or tools, I hate shopping… period. Put me in a hardwear shop, a tackleshop, or a pub and yes — I can handle that. Put me in a night market and I lose all reason to live.

Coming up soon I have the Malaysian Ironman in my sights, and this means I need to start swimming (with Snakehead) every day again. My running seems to be ok but I need to lift this too. Running has always been my road to fitness, but now it is the bike and that’s a different sort of fitness. My biking I have no problems with… I think. I have four months of longer weekly training hours ahead of me. And then I’m going to decide whether to increase or whether to increase a lot. Yes I know; the decision has already been made!! People make a lot of very strange decisions in life, but choosing not to be fit and active has serious life and fishing consequences.

It’s one thing to be fit. It’s a totally different challenge here in the tropics. That’s ultimately a good thing, right?

The next time I come to East Malaysia, I’ll put a roof top tent on the truck and car top the boat. Now that’s a holiday!!

Apparently my Sexyloops email has been bouncing for the past few days. It should be fixed now!

Have a great week!
