Drilling down to the good things in life.

So sitting here at my fly tying desk trying to get 15 boxes of flys down to 2 boxes of flys for the up coming season, a nymph/streamer box and a dry box filled with foam and others. I realized that I should not stop there.

As of April 1st, 2015, and this is not an April fools joke, I am going to get the hell off of social media. I have had enough of the interference that it causes in the pursuit of what I really want to do.

What do I really want to do ?

That is easy I want to fly fish, I really want to just be happy everyday and not have a small electronic box tell me what I should be trending or watching, not have to read this or answer this post and stop and think about this or that.

I remember the time when did not have the little evil glowing screen shining in me face for most of the day. I would rather have the sun shining off the water, as I read the water not the latest post or snippet of drivel about who's screwing who or what some celebrity is doing with their millions..

The only electronic contact I will still have is this forum, tho as I always do at this time of year is warn you all that my front pages will become rather sketchy in regularity, if I have a choice between fishing and sitting in front of a computer and typing fly fishing is going to win.

Being an older soldier and rather independent. I sure this will be healthier for me and make me a lot happier person.

I can’t remember when the last time a smart phone made me happy, or getting an email made my day. Facebook only brings news of questionable quality and you can only look at so many boobs in a day.

So I off to buy my new licence for the up coming season and then go fly fishing this afternoon which always has made me happy.

Here’s a story about a guy who made himself happy and most likely does not own a smart phone.

A small boy named Bruce lived in a suburb of Sydney, Australia.

None of his classmates liked him because of his stupidity, especially his teacher, who was always yelling at him, "You’re driving me mad, Bruce".

One day Bruce 's mum came to school to check on how he was doing.  The teacher told his mum honestly, that her son was simply a disaster, getting very low marks, and never had she seen such a dumb boy in her entire teaching career.

The mum was shocked at the feedback and withdrew her son from school and moved out of Sydney, relocating to Newcastle.

25 years later, the teacher was diagnosed with an incurable cardio disease.  All the doctors strongly advised her to have heart surgery, which only one surgeon could perform.

Left with no other options, the teacher decided to have the operation, which was successful. When she opened her eyes after the surgery she saw a handsome doctor smiling down at her.

She wanted to thank him, but could not talk.  Her face started to turn blue, she raised her hand, trying to tell him something but, sadly, she died.

The doctor was shocked and was trying to work out what went wrong, when he turned around he saw our friend Bruce, working as a janitor in the clinic, who had unplugged the oxygen equipment in order to connect his vacuum cleaner!

Don't tell me you thought Bruce became a heart-surgeon?
