Honestly, I hadnt read the text of Dick's interview in at least 15 years, so I figured this was as good a time as any to revisit our conversation. What an amazing guy, and a real unsung hero of the fishing rod industry. I had always remembered Dick's involvement with top secret govt/military programs like the SR-71 Blackbird Spy Plane project, but had forgotten about his deep influence in the sporting goods industry.
If you didnt get a chance to read the original interview in RodMaker Magazine, here is an opportunitiy to learn more about Dick Kantner. My biggest regret is not staying in touch with Dick loner after our interview. He was an amazing guy with a humble personality, and a deep lineage in the fishing business, that I feel never got the credit that he deserved.
I also noticed that the Kerry Burkheimer interview had not been published either. Paul is also in posession of that text as well, and should get it on the board shortly.
I really hope you guys are enjoying these interviews. It's so hard for me to believe that 20 years has passed since the first piece on Jimmy Green was published. I always that from a historical standpoint, that these pieces would be important, especially once these men were no longer with us. Having said that, I am so thankful I had the privelege to be the one to conduct those interviews, and to be able to share them with all of you two decades later.
Hope your all having a great week,
