Christmas Tree

Christmas Tree

Martyn White | Thursday, 25 December 2025

Merry Christmas everyone. It's just a very short one from me this week as I still need to put the cream on the trifle before I start my festive breakfast beverages.

Although the fly I'm doing this week is nothing spectacular, but entirely fitting as it's Christmas day. The Christmas Tree. A fairly standard lure that's been around for decades. It's less popular nowadays as is often the way, but when you do see it it's usually a mini lure rather than the old fashioned long-shank winged lures that used to be popular on the reservoirs. As a mini, it's great on the point and plays well with traditional wets on the cast. It's just as good for wild fish as stockie bashing and is still well worth a spot in the box. And at the risk of sounding like a broken record, loves a set of booby eyes being stuck on the front.
Here's the dressing

Hook: Comp heavy size 10, or long shank size 6-10
Thread: Black
Tail: Magenta floss or marabou
Body: Black fritz or chenille
Rib: Silver holographic
Wing: Black marabou
Flash: Crinkle mirror flash
Cheeks: Fluoro chartreuse floss
Booby eyes option-: Black or chartreuse 7mm foam

There you go. An Easy fish catcher. I'll Leave you now to get on with the trifle, the Muppets Christmas Carol and the like. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas if you celebrate, if you don't then enjoy whatever you get up to.
