December and part of January was more or less surviving. It was difficult to even think about fishing or anything around that. Days were just passing by it felt like in the movie “Groundhog Day”. You know that movie, where reporter is waking up for same day, only his reaction are different. Our winter has been pretty much same, feed the reindeers, get ready for visitors, do reindeer drive, tell about reindeer, feed the reindeer, go home, eat sleep and repeat. In that context it has been difficult to even think about fishing and writing has not been easy either.
Now when it is turning February and days are getting longer, it is not so bad after all. Days goes same way as so far and still I can feel childish excitement. It feels like on Christmas eve just before santa claus came to visit. 90 days left, I was not even in the army counting days when service is ending. Now each time I see Paul’s update from Sungai Tiang or anything related on that….. I got new ideas.
I made few questions last week, I kind of knew the answers but still I was not sure. After few message I found something that I need to buy for coming May. And when I did little bit more research I found out that I will probably need those few things in here also now and then. There is hot season in summer and waters are getting warm so wading socks with sand proctection could be useable in here also. Even it might be short period still useable.
Waterproof socks I have been using for several years all ready in my hiking boots when doing reindeer herding. I don’t have to worry about feet getting wet, I have use those also with waders if I had suspicion about leaking waders.
I saw photo about flies which could be used on Sungai Tiang, absolutely same which I use in here with grayling and trout. So fly issue is solved and then it is not. Paul mentioned that wire has to be strong and I have regular wire on most of the flies. So I did some research again and I will go to talk on local fishing gear shop that they really need to get some wider selection for hooks, especially with barbless ones. I’m kind of guy that I want to touch and feel things before buying it, so online shopping is not for me in hook issue. Well, it is after I have found what feels good to me.
So Paul’s request about flies will make me tie some flies before summer for sure. Not just to fill my own boxes but to do some extras for Malaysia, I do have few ideas all ready which they should test over there.
It looks like that you don’t need much to get excited like a child. Just fishing trip ahead with excotic place, for me jungle is that. I have never been out from Europe so jungle is pretty excotic for me. I’m really looking forward on coming weeks and May. I do have few days to get ready and tie some flies, as well to get some gears what we need over there. It is possible that everything will be left for last minute, as I know myself.
It looks like that Christmas eve will be on May for me and Satu. Warm holiday for Satu and great fishing for me, it is win-win situation.
