Casting at Mells

Casting at Mells

Tracy&James | Sunday, 27 June 2021

Hopefully when this is posted, James and I will be on the river fishing for grayling and trout. We don’t get much chance in the week as we both are still working full-time albeit from home under the current situation. Next weekend however we will be in Somerset for the first BFCC Meeting there, at Mells recreational ground near Frome. One of the members is local to this area and often holds casting instruction in the Mells fields, so proposed holding a meeting there. Whether we get the chance to fish in the area will be weather dependant so we’ll have to wait and see.

This BFCC Meeting is only the second in over a year and if the first one is anything to go by, this should be a really good event. We’ll have Mark, Mike, Sekhar and Vince providing first class tuition and James and I will run the competition events. It’s looking as if there will be a good class of caster for the comps, so we should hopefully post about some records being broken. We are allowing anyone to enter virtually too, they just need to cast on the same day against the BFCC rules (that are available on the BFCC website). For example weallow only 3 minutes for 5#, 7# and ST27 events and 4 mins for everything else (S55, T38 and T120).  However if you are on your own, as it may take you longer to measure, we’ve decide that you should make 8 casts and count the longest one.  The virtual results will be listed alongside the results from Somerset on the day. There are still a few places left for the attending the actual Somerset Meeting, so please let me know if you can come along and join in.

I am hoping to organise at least two more Meetings, perhaps in Cheshire and Derbyshire, to balance the southern events in Kent, Somerset and Essex (2nd October). I’m sure some members will question why we’re not going further north – and that will be due to the need for a local person to help me organise any meeting. I have had offers to support a meeting in Scotland however it hasn’t yet resulted in a definitive date and location being established as of yet.

Hopefully we’ll be catching some grayling and trout whilst you’re reading this, will report next weekend,

Cheers

Tracy
