Boots and Studs

Boots and Studs

I reviewed Bestards Canyoning boots earlier in the year as the best fly fishing boots I’ve used by a long way. I’ve had them now for three years and have not treated them kindly! Anyway I mentioned that I didn’t use studs, instead choosing to dance over the rocks however after a couple of crossings where I almost went swimming in some dodgy places, I ordered up some screw-in studs.

I ordered Best-grip studs model 3000B from Supertracks.com Not having holes for studs I was suspect that they would stay in. I have since put considerable miles on them with plenty of boulder-hopping and they are all in place as they should be. They are a bit like icebergs with large a wide screw and threads and a small sharp point. An absolutely excellent product and a vast improvement on slippery rocks compared with what I had before. Indeed they really bring the fun back to wading.

So if you are looking at Canyon Guide boots (and believe me you should be) then I can thoroughly recommend the above studs. Bestard gave me the boots with the objective of trying to kill them (this I haven’t been able to do yet). If or when this happens I will be a customer of theirs. Truly money well spent. The studs I bought myself and so this is a public service announcement.

Ashly and I are heading to KL today. Tomorrow I have a recording session when I put on my James Bond accent, with a little bit of gravel. I’m looking forward to the show being aired. It’s been a lot of fun!

And then I’m free free free. I’m available for Snakehead trips on the lake over the next four months. Fishing is good right now! Also I have a spot or two available soon for Zoom casting lessons. A package of 12x1hr lessons is £500 which takes around 6 months to complete by which time you should be an excellent fly caster.

Gotta run - long drive!

Cheers, Paul
