This is going to be a very short and last minute front page from me. Tracy and I are away from home staying in the Ashford area in preparation for tomorrow’s BFCC meeting at Willesborough cricket ground. We’re also just in from the pub where we were eating/drinking with the group of casters who have come over from France firstly to spend time with Mark and Mike running through the CI syllabus and other casting issues and secondly to compete in the competitions.
‘Just back in from the pub’ probably isn’t the best time to be writing but it’s been a busy trip – combining work with casting and some fishing still to come. Today’s casting was great and the guys from France, although not yet experienced in competitions, are seriously good – it’s going to be interesting to see which one of them comes out on top tomorrow. King Bart has also come over for this meeting and he resisted the temptation to cast himself out today despite my suggestion that he should do so.
The forecast for tomorrow suggests the casting competition is going to be tough, but hopefully it will be the same for all of us. Unfortunately Jose from Spain is at a disadvantage though having dislocated his thumb while fishing a week or so back. I know how much practice he’s put in and how much he was looking forward to competing, so his injury couldn’t have come at a worse time – I think he still intends giving it a go though. I shall report on the competition next week.
On the way back home I will be detouring into South Wales to fish the river Usk again – the same beat that I blanked on immediately after the Powys BFCC meeting. I feel there’s some unfinished business to settle with the trout there – last time I managed an embarrassing number of takes without a single fish hooked. This time I intend to do better.
James.
