I have been organising the BFCC casting calendar and have set four of the meetings for 2025. There are the usual venues in Kent, Derbyshire, Cheshire and Essex, however I close to arranging one near Bristol in May and hope to hold one in Jersey and one in Scotland too, though dates and locations are yet to be agreed. We have been invited to support the Scottish and English Game Fairs again, where we run a range of casting competitions for the public to attend. These are great fun events where casters can win some amazing prizes.
This year we hope to be able to run Spey comps alongside the usual trout distance, trout accuracy and salmon overhead. In Scotland, in particular, when people enter the salmon overhead event, they Spey cast it, so we have asked the organisers if we can run an additional comp and this is looking promising. The prizes in the Scottish GF are always really good also, so hopefully this will encourage more people to enter, perhaps international casters too.
The BFCC meetings are:
- MAY TBD – Bristol area
- JUNE 8th - Willesborough CC, Ashford, Kent (Facebook)
- JUNE 22nd - Dodleston Sports Field, near Chester, Cheshire (Facebook)
- JULY 4th-6th - Scottish Game Fair at Scone Palace Parklands, Perthshire
- JULY 25th-27th - Ragley Game Fair, Warwickshire
- AUGUST 2nd - Ashford in the Water CC, near Bakewell, Derbyshire (Facebook)
- SEPTEMBER TBD - Jersey, Channel Islands (specific location TBC)
- OCTOBER 4th - Bentley CC, Brentwood, Essex (Facebook)
We are currently preparing for the next competition for us, which will be the 6th UK Fly Casting Championship in Cumbria on Thursday 27th to Sunday 30th MARCH. This time international casters are also welcome to enter and the comp includes includes ICSF events: Trout Distance; Trout Accuracy; ST27 Distance; Salmon S55g Overhead Distance; 15ft Spey; and 16-18ft Spey. Overall UK Winners of all events combined in each category (Men, Women and Veteran) will become UK Champion for 2025-2026. Also the event determines the UK Team members to enter the World Fly Casting Championships in Italy in 2026.
This event is always a fun social competition and it will be lovely to catch up with our friends, some of whom we will be house sharing with. The venue has plenty of facilities including a bar where we regularly pop in to. This championship is cast over water, so whilst James and I are in Scotland this week, we have been practising as we are staying next to saltwater lochs. We're also fishing here so are hoping to catch a sea trout.
It's a busy time for us as straight after the UK Champs, we are flying off to the Bahamas for our annual saltwater holiday, so there's still lots to prep for that, including getting more flies tied.
Whatever you are doing this week, enjoy and tight-lines
Cheers
Tracy
