A Fly On The Wall---Part 4

A Fly On The Wall---Part 4

Today we explore another one of Dr. John Tebbetts patterns from his archive, one of my personal favorites...The Doctor Darth.

By far my pattern of choice in the Doctor Series of Tarpon flies is The Doctor Darth. Its unique color scheme mimics many old Heddon plugs from the 50s and 60s like the famous Red/White Lucky 13. I have a personal love affair with the Heddon Lucky 13, as that was my dad's favorite topwater plug for many, many years. And, any veteran Bass angler from the south will tell you that an Arborgast Jitterbug in black/white is still to this day, an absolute KILLER when the topwater bite is on.

Of course, this pattern can be tied in any number of effective color combinations, but what gives the Doctor Darth its unique flair is the Badger hackle and the multi-layered collar.

This pattern sums up Bubba's tying style for me....unique color combinations with a few signature touches. In this case, the head is tied mostly with traditional black thread, except for the section where the eye will sit, which is silver Krystal Flash. A subtle but notable touch that fits right in with the good doctor's eye for elegance and detail.

I have included the recipe sheet below. for anyone wanting to give this pattern a try. Trust me when I tell you it is a KILLER on Largemouth Bass!

Hope you all are having a great week,
