12

Just a short one from me this week, I didn't do any fishing or much of interest. Rainy season has finally got going here and it's a good one. We had 140mm overnight on Friday and about 150 on Saturday after a week of constant rain. No way The rivers were going to be fishable even though the weather was lovely on Monday. It would have been perfect spotting weather if the river hadn't been running like chocolate milk. So I decided to spend an extra couple of hours practising.

It was the first time I've lifted a 12 weight since last summer and, if I'm honest with myself, I regretted not getting it out to practise with earlier. I always forget how different the 12 seems to the lighter gear. I spend most of my time using an 8 and don't really find there's much of a transition when I go the 10, but the 12 always needs a bit of work to get to terms with. Especially when it's for flats fishing with big flies. The offshore work I do in summer still needs practice, but is just easier from a casting perspective.

Luckily I've still got 3 weeks to get my hand in, which will be enough to get back to making a good, fast shot with a 6/0 brush fly or NYAP... provided I can keep my head. The added bonus of the time pressure means I won't be tying too many unnecessary flies either, probably.
