There’s something long in my stocking

There’s something long in my stocking

Paul Arden | Tuesday, 16 November 2021

Yes, it’s middle of November, which means that Christmas is just around the corner and if you want something long in your stocking, then now is a very good time to order. A fully customised HT can be built from scratch and delivered anywhere in the world in time for Xmas. Also we have a selection of standard sexy builds ready, that can be shipped at a moment’s notice.

Our rod tubes are 79cm (31inches). (Those require some big socks).

Let’s talk about rods and goats. Goats are something I’ve been hearing a lot about recently. I always thought a goat was a furry animal that lived up mountains, but apparently it also means “Greatest Of All Time”. Someone actually called me a goat in the comments section of one of my videos recently and I nearly wrote back “you bastard” but after searching around the internet, to try to work out why anyone would think I resembled a goat, I decided it was meant as a compliment.

I think me being a goat might be a bit over the top. I’m more of an orangutan than a goat. But the HT series might actually qualify in my mind. Of course it’s very subjective. But what I would say, is that if you buy a HT, it may very well be the last fly rod you’ll ever need (in the respective line weight).  I don’t think it’s possible to make significant changes in action or performance without some new material.  In fact it’s been like that for many years now, despite the marketing.  The difference between rods is more about design than anything else. So I for one don’t see any big changes in the coming decades and I would be very happy to spend the next 50 years fishing and casting a possible goat.

Incidentally make sure you fit the correct corresponding line weight to the rod, otherwise you risk turning your goat into a dog. For more technical advice like this, feel free to email me on

Busy times here. I’ve renewing my Malaysian visa and work permit this week. That’s always entertaining. Back to the Battleship in the morning to finish work on the guest quarters. Flycasting Zoom lessons later this week. And the HT5…. Oh yeah baby!!
