Last weekend was rain and poor weather. Saturday I was building fence again outside of farm. I'm useful idiot with all tools. Sunday morning we could do little at farm even in light rain. We are not made from sugar yet tools like drill, impulsive nailer etc are not huge friends with rain.
Monday we finished fences at farm with French helper. He did one gate and small finishing on Tuesday.
I was already out to gather reindeer on Tuesday. It was adventurous, 11 hours on quad, finished in total darkness when we tried to get reindeers to swim over narrow strait. That didn't work out as planned so we hoped that they would stay on cape overnight.
There was risk as multiple males wanting to have girls. We got bit lucky and wednesday morning all of them where still on spot. Little more preparations and more quads and we got them to swim over.
Funny how things have changed, I checked how wide strait is from map. It just little bit more what I can cast at the moment. When I stand on shore and watched over strait it looked impossible, when measuring, 41 meters... just few meters more than my best cast so far. You do get different perspective. Those reindeers we got in fence later in afternoon.
Reindeers are excellent swimmers when they want to swim. Later on afternoon we saw male basically throwing female on same strait with antlers, and forcing it swim over strait back. Horny animals do some weird stuff. I thought that it would be shorter day but I forgot my gps location on public and got call for help. Difficult to say no when they see where you are. So I ended up to move reindeers again.
We tried to get them over bridge but surrounding was so wet that they didn't want to go, so we had to use road bridge over 1 km different way. Daylight went out again and it was work in darkness. Then we had to move them over "highway". Plan was use one bridge to get them behind river where they came day before... Reindeers had other plan and they decided to swim over, saved our time again one hour.
So in two days 22 hours on quad, my ass knows it. Thursday we continued and gathered reindeers in fence. River swimmers had stayed on right side and darkness work paid off again.
Friday same work continue on different area. On Saturday we will handle all what we have got in different fences during week and Sunday first slaughter of season.
Time will show what happens next week. We had some minus last night and Thursday evening it is allready showing - 2 celsius. Next week might be last change for fishing also.
And I need to talk with Paul about my casting practise plans. End of week is for reindeer work only for sure. I'm leaving again 7 am in the morning. Quad, reindeer and nature is calling.
Have a nice weekend and go fishing
