This weekend we’re in Italy at the SIM Fly Festival in Castel Di Sangro. It’s our first trip to Italy and we’re loving the country and people, though it would be better if it wasn’t 300C. We’re not used to this sort of heat in Wales, so this is really testing our endurance. Today we did several casting demos with various outfits, including a 5# Sexyloops hot torpedo. They have kindly provided a casting platform so there is less potential to tick, however the grass is weedy so our pick-ups are sometimes tricky. On one cast today with the ST27, I managed to snag strongly enough to snap the leader!
It’s great that the Italian casters are keen to have a go even when we are experiencing strong gusty winds, often from the right, which is not great for right handed casters! It’s also lovely to meet new people from all over the world.
We’re also enjoying the food and drink, particularly the fantastic snacks you get when you order a drink. However James had to stop drinking after two pints yesterday because he was stuffed; every time he ordered a beer it came several plates of food.
Tomorrow we have another day of casting demos and perhaps some fishing as we have been kindly lent an outfit to try to catch one of the huge trout we have seen in the river Sangro. James fished a little today after the demos and missed a big fish. We were also given a couple of flies that apparently should work well in the river by one of the fly tyers.
