Heading Home

Heading Home

Tracy&James | Thursday, 20 December 2018

This is going to be a short FP as Tracy and I are getting our stuff together ready for heading to North Wales for Christmas and the New Year. When I say ‘stuff’ this mostly consists of fishing and casting gear. I’ll be taking all the outfits that we cast at the BFCC that way, if it’s too windy to cast a 5 weight, as it quite often is, then I can practice with the heavier rods such as the ST27, T38 and S55. If anyone is in the area and fancies a cast rather than stuffing more food and drink in then let me know.

It will be good to start topping up my saltwater fly boxes again, the Christmas break is when I traditionally start tying for our spring trip.  I’m still having trouble sourcing the materials I want, even down to hooks – the typical size 4 and 6 bonefish hooks tend to go ‘out of stock’ pretty quickly these days.  Perhaps I need to try some different manufacturers, however I’m always a bit worried about trying something that I’ve not previously tried and tested (I’m still mentally scarred from all the straightened hooks on one particular trip).

If the weather is kind we may also get a day or so on the River Dee.  Last year we fished a couple of times over the holiday, one day was really great whilst the other was as tough as it gets.  I guess that’s typical of winter grayling fishing.

Anyway, I wish you all a peaceful holiday, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing.

All the best, James.
