Hang on to your shorts

Hang on to your shorts

I have a couple of slots available for fly casting coaching. So if you want coaching directly from me then please email or WhatsApp. These slots don’t come up very often!

It’s possible to do the compete course that I’ve been giving for the past 7 years, which I would thoroughly recommend. It takes about a year and you will become a truly outstanding and complete flycaster as a result.

I don’t only coach “elite” casters!!!! I know that a few are surprised by this, but I coach and enjoy coaching ALL levels of ability, and of course welcome everyone!

I am also available for CI and MCI training, and I also coach competition casters, but I mostly coach anglers who have plateaued in their progress and wish to reach the next level (and then some!).  So if you are interested, then let me know. Here is the usual email I send out to interested anglers:

What I normally give is a ten lesson course which covers all the bases and goes into specifics as well. There are four bases as I see single handed casting. Distance,  Accuracy, Speys and Presentations. Distance helps give us shots in the wind. I also teach the 170 distance cast to all my students, which gives them a backhand shot 80 or more feet. Also into a quartering headwind.

Speys integrate with change of direction shots. And Presentation Casts gives us fine motor control (I liken presentation casts more to painting than fly casting!).

The course roughly covers this:

Accuracy, OSD, Hauling
Roll cast, 3 stops
Backcast deliveries
Jump Roll
Spey Casts
170
Presentation casts
Presentation Mends
Rod planes/loop planes
Wind, all options.
Line management, quick shots
Trick casts/steeple cast/change direction/ snaps/ tailing loops uses.

Most of my students are Saltwater anglers taking shots. Me too. I’m all about shots. Snakehead shots are amazing.

Every lesson is full with drills and exercises. It’s often between lessons where the magic happens. I ask my students to keep notes of their training. Issues, solutions, scores, epiphanies. Etc. And usually something like 8-10hrs of practise between lessons is about right.

10 lessons takes about a year. It can take longer and really it’s at your pace. Life and fishing can get in the way sometimes!

All lessons are recorded so you can download afterwards. This is very important because typically we can only remember 3 or 4 things in a lesson. But by watching it again we can take notes, see ourselves cast and importantly I’m not worried about teaching too much because it can be unpicked later.

Then these notes can be whatsapped to me so we can check we are on the same page. Talking of which, any videos that you take of yourself you can also WhatsApp to me. Any questions between lessons and so on.

Lessons are billed as an hour but they are usually longer and I give myself a 90 minute window if I have a following or previous lesson that morning/evening.

Only evening I don’t teach is Sat night. Not because I’m out partying but because I regularly have a 5-hour indoor bike ride that night! And then Sunday morning is usually out too because I’m recovering from this insanity.

I charge $100/lesson. You don’t have to buy 10 and once. Most people do just because it’s simply done and out the way. Some buy blocks of five. But you definitely want to plan for 10 because the real magic seems to happen somewhere between  lessons 8&10. By that point you will be in the top 1% of flycasters worldwide.

I haven’t put testimonials up for years now. I can’t deal with a rush of new recruits! Here are some older testimonials

Interestingly I still coach all of these fine people! Quite a few are now coaches themselves too.

I think that’s most of the important information. Ah yes you will need: a tripod for your phone or tablet, four hoops 2’ diameter (eg hula hoops), a tape measure 50 meters /165’ long (100’ is not long enough!). And Bluetooth headset or EarPods etc, so we can talk away from camera.  Some fluff you can see (hot orange glo bug yarn for example), a spare leader and snip-snip scissors.

I’m +60198549552 on WhatsApp. Certainly this is the quickest way to get hold of me. I don’t sleep with my phone so can message day or night. Any questions please ask!!

Cheers, Paul

So there you have it! I hope to see some of you and work together with you on your casting for the next year or more.

Out here in the jungle things are hotting up. I saw three sets of babies this evening. I should have had a fish on the end. Particularly with the small babies set. I’m a little bit out of practise and these past months has been very slow fishing. I’ll get back up to speed quickly!

Now that I have seen fish I’m going to organise my time accordingly. Tomorrow I’ll move the boat to the east side of the lake. If I get a 10 shot day I’ll let you know, because it may be time to drop everything and join me for a week! The adults I saw today were BIG. This is big fish time of year. So for those of you who do and can visit at short notice… better hang on to your shorts and start checking for flights!

And today after much fanfare. I’m uploading a discussion I had recently with master craftsman Andy the Redneck. This guy can certainly build rods!

Talking of which, we can ship Sexyloops Tornados internationally from the USA too. Just add $100 and you can have an Andy the Redneck build. We also build in Spain too of course. Every rod comes with a Sexyloops Zoom Cast session with me. And a 1 in 666 chance of winning a pirate fly fishing holiday with me. Wooden peg legs will be provided.

Have a fantastic week. This may well be BIG FISH week!!

Cheers, Paul

PS Andy’s video *is* coming. It’s a long one!!!
