Finally it died

Finally it died

Saturday morning I slept little longer, long days with paddock and some stress about other things, so I thought now I can take longer sleep and take it slowly. My plan was have some fishing despite weather.

I had totally forgot that someone would come with hunting dog to see how it react with reindeer. Or more like it shouldn't react as reindeers are totally wrong game. So I woke on that call that what time they could come and also message that could I go with our dogs to move reindeers from one cape.

When I went to farm I realized that there are not much wind and as sun was shining, perfect autumn fishing weather. When being with dogs on cape, it hit me, there is absolutely no wind at all as Kitka, big lake, was totally dead calm.

I rushed reindeer work and decide to go fishing. As it was already over 1 pm when I was back home, I asked if Satu would join and we would go fishing. River would be no 1 choice yet it would take one hour to get there and I counted it would be close 3pm, so I pick up our lake.

When we arrived it was dead calm and some rises. As we got rods ready and boat, some wind already came. I thought that this can't be happening again. It was just small breeze to remind that game can be over any minute.

We started and I told Satu to get fly out and ready as I was rowing. On first cast just next to lily, when she was getting line out, there was rise on fly, but we couldn't be sure was it rejection or what.

I rowed on spot where was recurring rises, I put anchor down and let Satu fish. As it was one spot so not really point cast randomly. It didn’t take long when there was bite, we could see head coming slowly on surface and mouth opening and taking fly. Satu had little too much slack so she missed hooking. That spot died, so we moved little bit as another one was active, but breeze killed that one so we came back on same spot.

Now it was my turn. After few cast I had strike and strong beautiful rainbow trout was in boat. Fish to smoke on Sunday. We continued fishing and Satu had again strike, this time hooked but not good enough as fish swam fast towards boat and Satu was not able to take line in with that speed, so some slack and unhooked.

Small breezes started to come and go, and  few rises what we saw died totally. It was time to finish as sun started to go down and that fucking wind started to rise.

Whole week we have had some great opportunities for fishing... yet all those opportunities has been around 7 pm which is way too late for surface activity on this time of year and way too dark to fish.

Yet we had at least one perfect day with fishing before winter comes, there are still time yet reindeer work and wind could have other opinion.

Have a nice weekend and go fishing
