Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!

Happy New Year! Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! It’s a time for new resolutions and as normal, ours are to fish more, practice distance and accuracy fly casting more and travel more (obviously to go fishing). However there are some specific new resolutions that I have proposed to James…

We recently fished the welsh Dee and although the weather was lovely and the river appeared perfect for nymphing, neither of us caught anything. Well I hooked but lost a decent fish in a matter of seconds. So I reckon I need to learn more about French nymphing such as the need for perhaps heavier flies, squirmy worms, etc.

Typically, within twenty minutes of starting to fish, James had his usual dunking and then spent the rest of the day with sodden and cold feet. So since James has the inclination to go swimming most times we fish a river (or the sea), I intend to get him a dry suit. One of the reasons for this is it took so long to dry out his waders following his plunge, that we then couldn’t go fishing the next day.

I already took up one of my new resolutions and that was to acquire a wading stick, which I found excellent during our recent trip. It helped me to feel more confident whilst wading and I found that I fished in deeper water than I would have previously. Although as mentioned I didn’t actually catch anything. Hopefully we’ll go again later this week, once I’ve dried out his waders. Now does anyone have any suggestions for dry suits?

All the best for 2020

Tracy

PS – I’m not in any of the photos as I was the only one with a camera – it’s always worrying to give James anything electronic when fishing ;-)
