SHARING your HOT SPOT or NOT?

SHARING your HOT SPOT or NOT?

Bernd Ziesche | Wednesday, 3 June 2015

I spent most of my time fly fishing in many different places around the globe. Fair to say I had the opportunity to fish a serious number of truly hot spots among all these places. Pretty often people asked me for help in choosing a proper spot to fish for whatever species they were after. Would you give away your hot spot?

I always did! One of the main reasons was that I always liked to share my pictures presenting some of the fish I caught. It simply didn’t feel fair to me to share pictures presenting incredible fish but then keeping the fishing spot secret.

Anyway I met a lot of anglers who often published their catches but never wanted to share their fishing spots. And then I met a fair number of anglers who would share their favorite fishing spot with their best friends but telling them not to talk about the spot with any of their friends. Seemed pretty obvious to me that most of us had good friends and of course those friends had their own good friends as well. Telling a good friend not to share a great fishing spot with his best friends always seemed to be ridiculous to me. I rather would decide not to share my fishing spots and my catches either. But hey I like to share my fishing and that includes catches and spots!

Today in times of google earth and facebook (and all other social media) I hardly believe there are any secret spots left. Yes, there are some spots which are still very hard to reach. But that doesn’t make them secret…

Of course this is only my point of view. What’s your experience – would you share your favorite hot spot?

I had a lot of great fishing days during the past week. We fished for pike, pike perch, Brown trout and more. Then I was teaching, coaching and demoing fly casting and fly fishing. You may find some pictures below. Those pictures were made on Rügen island and on the Luhe river in Germany. ;)

Great fishing week to all of you!

All my best

Bernd

p.s.: The hottest (fishing) spot in the world of course is the FLEMISH CAP!
