These two flies are the ones I've been most successful with so far. There's nothing new or magical about them, but they do work well.
Hare's Ear Snatcher
Hook: Fulling Mill Super Grub, 10 & 12.
Thread: UNI 8/0, tan.
Rib: Gold wire.
Palmerhackle: Dark Dun, genetic.
Body: Hare's Ear.
Fronthackle: Partridge.
Sides: Jungle Cock.
Head: Hare's Ear.
This fly has worked well fished in almost any matter - dry (damp, rally) and wet, high and low. I think it just looks plain edible to a trout!
Madam X Variant.
Hook: Fulling Mill Super Grub, 10 & 12.
Thread: UNI 8/0, tan.
Body: Hare's Ear.
Wing: CDC under Elk Hair (folded back also forming the head).
Head: Elk Hair tied forward and folded back, also forming the overawing.
Legs: Barred rubberlegs.
A nice dry that I think can be taken for both hoppers, sedges and other terrestrials. It's done well as a dry top dropper over one or two light nymphs/buzzers.
