I love these big open spaces down here on the South Island. Having grown up on the Canadian prairies, I need a big horizon. Don't like being hemmed in by trees or buildings. It's not just about space though, but a feeling of time. A big wide open horizon makes you feel like there are limitless possibilities. You kind of stretch into them.
