The night before we were supposed to leave we encountered heavy rain and the river rapidly became unfordable. We had only one tin of beans and a guitar so instead sitting it out - a process which could take days (I once got trapped on a West Coast river for 8 days) we decided to cross a couple of flooded backwaters and cross this log jam.
