This is a very simple cast, which I am including for the sake of completeness, shown to me by some Kiwi guides as a means of getting clients fly fishing, without the problems of learning fly casting (which when you are only getting paid for a couple of hours, and fish catching is expected, does kind of makes sense) and it goes like this:

  • The line is on the dangle

  • The angler faces the fish

  • And then slowly lifts the rod and flicks the tip forwards

Pretty basic - but hey, don't knock it, it gets people fly fishing and that's got to be good.
