Tough day today. Hard spotting and the fish - on my river at least - weren't on the swing. I saw good numbers of fish however but only hooked two during the daylight, one of which I lost in an epic struggle which involved me sprinting down the bank, leaping into the river, crossing twice, when finally he broke me around some rocks. The other fish also put up a hellish battle, taking me through some rapids. A good fish of six and a half pounds.
Later I nipped down to pool where I hooked up yesterday but dropped the fish. Third cast I hooked and landed this cracker of seven and a quarter.
I'm catching some good fish but neither the numbers nor the size I want right now. The river's rising (it's still raining). Tomorrow I'll fish the river for which I've been waiting - assuming the crossing isn't in flood - and take firelighters and an emergency blanket in case it does so while I'm gone. Still looking for those trophy fish...
