As you will have read yesterday we are trying something different along with the usual YouTube stuff and uploading discussions that might be of interest to someone. I’ve been learning a great deal about Ironman from discussions between a couple of coaches and so when Nick suggested that we try a Zoom session discussing all things including distance casting, I thought it was a great idea.
So we had a Zoom chat that went seriously into overtime last week and covered many things. I think some of you will find it interesting. If they are well received I think we’ll do these more regularly. However trying to upload the bloody thing here in the jungle is mission impossible. 24hrs later I’ve still only uploaded 53%!
However I have a Zoom lesson tonight and so am currently moving the Battleship up the lake, It appears that the slow upload was a result of where I was moored up and it’s fairly zipping along now. So much so that I believe I’ll be able to make use of it today, or if not today then before Christmas.
Incidentally talking about Ironman, I can’t begin to tell you how much more I enjoy training now that I have booked in for Ironman Malaysia. I’ve been doing a lot of research on fuelling and how to train and I’m definitely armed with a lot more knowledge than before. I’m basically doing similar training but with one long bike ride and one long run per week. I’m still terrified of swimming into Snakehead with babies, but that’s another story!
There is an IM coach who I would like to coach me, but his cheapest plan is £1500 per year and up to £5000/year for coaching! When I look at his prices I think mine are too cheap! I’m 700USD for 12 one-hour 1-1 sessions with unlimited WhatsApp and email time in-between. Normally a course with me takes around six months. Anyway I’ll hold prices for now :))) but the little cogs are turning :)))
I have to count up my student numbers but I’m very close to maximum numbers anyway at the moment. I might be able to fit in 1-2 more. I’m fine with time at the moment but when guiding starts again next month it’s going to be impossible to have more than 12 ongoing students at a time. I’ve always liked working but I mostly like not working. I treat work like most people treat a holiday.
The point I was going to make, is that no matter what you are trying to improve, you need a goal. And it should be measurable. You don’t have to compete with others, but you should at the very least compete with yourself.
Learning to improve your flycasting skills is a fun process, full of epiphanies. The fascinating thing I find, is that we actually improve performance as we get older. There aren’t too many sports when you can say this about. Fishing itself is an obvious one. But flycasting less obvious, but undoubtedly true. There will no doubt be a point when it all starts to go backwards, possibly preceded by your dick falling off.
Hope you’re having a good weekend! Video has uploaded. Blimey.
Cheers, Paul
