Many fly fishermen have asked me, which fish species is my favorite one? The answer is quite simple: The one I am fly fishing for!
During the past 25 years I have been fly fishing for more than 100 different fish species. Some of them offered a spectacular fishing to me.
Tarpon (often called to be the silver king) offered me incredible takes, outstanding fights and a truly large fish at the end of my line!
Bonefish (often called to be the grey ghost) offered me fantastic sight-fishing, exciting presentations of my fly into really shallow water and finally one long run after the hook up.
Sea trout offered me a sort of coastal fly fishing, in which even after 25 years I still can't get enough of it!
Then I wouldn't want to miss a single one of my yearly fly fishing trips to the Glomma in Norway to fish for grayling and Brown trout. It's dry fly and nymph fishing at it's best. I truly love to fish for both.
Fly fishing my home waters I love to fish for pike, pike perch, perch, carp, asp, mullet and several more.
Every single fish species offers me a learning curve. Even better there are always things you learn when fishing for one species and then can be adapted in order to successfully catch another species. It's all like a huge puzzle. If you have cracked the code for catching one - you will get the full picture much faster on the next one.
In the end I really don't have one favorite species to fish for. It's to change from one species to the next one as often as possible really making a difference to me. It's precisely this what I enjoy the most!
