March Challenges

March Challenges

Paul Arden | Saturday, 2 March 2019

First up, the Hot Torpedo shirts have all been printed and I should have them in my hands later this week. As soon as I receive them I shall post them out to all competition entrants. After this we shall start a new competition for Hot Torpedo Owners with slightly different rules this year; monthly winners will receive a Sexyloops T-shirt with a picture of their choosing as the main image (this can be a picture of you holding a fish while looking surprised for example). The grand prize will be a custom built Hot Torpedo Rod. I’ll run the competition for 12 months, so the winner will be decided in April 2020. More rules for this exciting competition to follow.

We have two mini-competitions this month. The first is an “elite” fly casting challenge. The challenge is to throw into a 180cm Accuracy target using your non-dominant hand successfully 3 out of 5 attempts. The target is to be placed at 100 ft distance. The fly line must be AFFTA conforming 5WT. So a MED, Thunderbolt, Rio Comp Gold etc. I don’t know if I can do this but by the end of March I certainly hope to be able! We shall see who else manages this challenging cast.

Remember we also have an Essential Level Challenge at Sexyloops - for those of you who may not be able to do this yet off your dominant side. Incidentally if you are in England and would like to be tested this year I shall be over in August. I haven’t forgotten the video of the challenge and I will shoot it later this month when either Martyn or Tim joins me.

The second mini-challenge is to tie a fishable Dragonfly that I can then fish in the jungle! Piffen tied one so good that I have changed his name to Dragon Piffen! You can see this and his step by step method on the Board.

If you would like to enter this competition take a photo and post to the Board or to me via email Best fly gets a free day’s guided fly fishing in Malaysia :D

A month of challenges. Viking Lars is at the Danish Fly Festival which Is why I’m covering the Saturday slot. That’s all folks!
