Cross country skiing

Cross country skiing

When I was younger I use to ski quite a lot. When I was child we had local competition each year and I was mostly second or third on my age class. As teenager I was competing in biathlon also. Biathlon was better sport for me because I was (and still am) a good in shooting, which is also important in biathlon. Cross country skiing is something we do in school here in Finland. And often it kills your desire for that at same time.

I have been dropping in rabbit's hole this week few times. It has been partly on purpose, when I come home from farm, I watch few Sexyloops' casting videos and check little bit what's going on in Board. Working days are still long ones from 10 to 12 hours, some small things on top.

Last weekend something started to bother me. I couldn't really say what it was. I knew that it was something with skiing and flycasting. Yesterday I realized what it was. Double haul and skiing.

Well it is not exactly one to one and yet it has some simirality. I was watching Sexyloop's Intermediate level double hauling when it hit me.

During your forward cast and when you do hauling backwards. Your hand movements are quite a lot same as you do shift skiing on classic style or on freestyle when you shifting. It is starting from 2 minutes about. That is funny, if you look when skiers do shift skiing, hands are moving pretty much as hauling backwards. All to way with elbow and wrist. Of course you can't use skiing videos to train casting, still skiing is much of using your body as casting also.

It is funny how I find similarities from things which couldn't be more far from each other. I hope that days would get little easier and shorter at farm. I'm looking forward to start casting training soon. I have set my brains for that all ready, body is not with me yet.

Have a nice weekend and go fishing.
