I’ve been doing a lot of Zoom teaching this week. This could actually be a full time job for me. But I don’t want it to be. What it might become eventually is a full or part time job for several instructors at Sexyloops. I’m working hard on the courses I’m teaching, the exercises and drills I use, as well as the teaching methods I’m utilising. It’s been very interesting to do this.
12 lesson courses has really opened my eyes. It’s a different world when you teach a student for six months. You get to analyse your teaching methods in a way that I’ve never done before. What is difficult sometimes is to remember what you have taught to who!! Consequently a) comprehensive lesson planning and b) note keeping is important. This week I’ve had students from Massachusetts, Vienna, Czech Republic and Bermuda. But I also have them ongoing in Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, UK and elsewhere. Not to mention the free lesson that goes with every HT rod… I’m busier now that I’ve ever been!!
It’s a lot of work at the moment, however when I’ve filmed a standard follow-up video for each lesson, as well as a range of casting exercise videos, then it will be less work. Even I can see that!! Currently I make bespoke videos after each lesson (or most of them) and I’ve noticed that there is a pattern to them and I often repeat myself. Which of course means that if I had a database of videos I could simply send a link to the appropriate one/s.
It’s a lot of work but I see enormous potential for this in the future and I can see it having a truly profound effect on teaching. To standardise flycasting coaching and put it in a Sexyloops box is my goal here. And then when this TV show happens and we have 10,000 new students we will be in a position do something about it!
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “What? People actually get flycasting lessons?!” Apparently so.
No fish stories this week but next week will see big fish pictures again :))) Have a great week!
