Not much detailed information is available about fly fishing for these two species of fish! For quite some time now I have been studying how to fly fish for them. One of the main key factors was in designing a fly being able to be fished in between rocks – without getting hooked up to the rocks of course!

The board is quiet, my explorations are nil but I am still practising my casting. The double haul is on its way and then after that, I want to practise getting a lot more line out... before that however, I will send a video to the Instructor to get his opinion. I may even post it here for all to see.... ha!!! And of course, I will be going out to fish, putting into practice all I have learned about salt water fly fishing - many people have contributed and for that I am grateful.

Ti and the Gov are over from KL, here in Hungary, and I have a hell of trip lined up for them. Today on the way back from the Zagreb airport I offered them some fishing, and I'm very please to say that despite being let-lagged and sleepy they went for it. We caught no notable fish, but it was a notable day, with hard fishing, a fantastic meal and of course Latohegy wine tasting!

When fishing pike, your leader is something that needs a little special attention. With approximately 700 razor sharp teeth in its mouth, even a small pike will sever your fly from the leader easily, so you need either a wire of a fluorocarbon trace.

This evening I fished for trout in a river that is not a trout river, says New York state < they are mostly correct.

I am sorry to have missed my front page last Wednesday. But I was on a mission: Teaching how to fly fish for Atlantic salmon to a group of beginners. For about one week we fished the Danish Skjern River. We fished in two shifts (4 to 5 hours each) per day: One in the morning and one in the late afternoon.

Just back from a weekend of trout fly fishing at a place in Northern NSW called Uncle Billy's Retreat. A beautiful farm that holds sheep and cattle and the odd boar and piglets. I had a crap weekend for reasons I won't go into but the rest of the guys all caught loads of fish from three stocked dams - one large and two smaller ones.

This is a rather late FP that I'm writing. My excuse is of course fishing! I was fishing yesterday on the Croatian Canal that is local to me, catching up with some friends, and then I dropped Ashly off at Zagreb Airport today. And what a great trip that was... the Scottish Meet, fishing the Highlands (photos uploaded this evening) and then a quick drive across Europe to Latohegy, Hungary.

I've been doing a lot of teaching lately. Most of my students have been good casters who want to teach others and know they aren't very good at it. I know all about that, I wasn't very good at it when I started, but thought I was, of course....

I'm not having much luck catching salmon this year. I've not been able to get out and put in some long days, and when it comes to catching salmon, that's probably the most important factor!

It's raining in most of Alberta and Montana, so must head to Craig Montana for the Caddis Festival!

I know ya'll have been on the edge of your cubicle chairs since my last front page - eyes bulging with anticipation as to just what knot I use when fishing spinners. Wait no longer.

The club of which I am a member is going on a club trip this coming weekend. We are going to NSW to fish for trout in lakes.....they are stocked lakes but still sufficient to get me excited about the prospect of landing a trout again for the first time since 2009!!! I need some confidence since my endeavours in salt water fly fishing have produced less than desirable results. Plus, there is another female going! Unheard of in my years of fly fishing so all good.

I've been offline almost for one whole week while fishing and camping with Ashly in the Scottish Highlands. Most of our fishing was in the Lochinver region, fishing the Assynt Angler's waters (thanks Al Greig for the location hint!). The scenery was truly awesome, and perhaps the best in the whole of Scotland. The weather was... erm... rather cold! We had snow, rain, hail, strong winds - and of course we were camping! A truly enjoyable trip with some good fishing (especially the final night when we had a good evening rise). And best of all, not only did Ashly catch her first fish, but she also managed fish from every lake we fished!

After the EWF show in Germany a group of us traveled to the River Traun in Austria for a few days of fishing. A wonderful place, and home water of famous fly anglers, teachers, guides Hans Aigner, Hans Gebetsroither and Roman Moser. Sadly, Hans Aigner passed away while we were there, after a battle with cancer.....

These past couple of months have been a bit of a blur.... but there has been fishing!

Mother Nature's annual cruel joke on fly fishermen is once again under way - clouds of Apple Caddis (Grannoms or Brachycentridae) have assembled and are flying up river. One humorous facet to the whole 'Caddis Experience' is listening in on the diner parking lot conversations of the non-fly fishing drivers as they try to clear their windshields from the gooey-protein-mix that their wipers spread ala a Jasper Johns' device painting.

I am just back from a great fishing trip to Gotland, Sweden. Gotland is a beautiful island in the Swedish Baltic Sea offering 800 Km of coast presenting coastal nature at its best. I was teaching strategies on Sea trout as well as fly casting and fly tying all in focus of catching Sea trout.

Since moving to Queensland, my fishing knowledge has increased 10-fold.! First fishing in the southern states of Australia in freshwater, targeting mostly trout and some redfin and now in the northern state where it is all salt water. Even though I am yet to catch a decent sized saltwater fish, I have high hopes that the day will arrive sooner rather than later.....

We've just had another fantastic Scottish Meet. A really fantastic weekend I think with perhaps our best ever Shootout. Lots learned, some fantastic presentations and excellent company. But I only have 4% of laptop battery to tell it all! I shall be back later.... :)

The 2015 EWF show near Munich is now history and appears to have been a big success. Over 3500 attendees and it looked to me like a good time was had by all. The beer garden was very busy early both days, the casting ponds were full, vendors very busy....

I have a lot of shooting heads, and it's no secret that I'm a big advocate of using them - and that it's a big misconception that they're for distance casting only. I use them a lot - and I have lot too. I have several shooting heads for all my rods - from my 4-wts to my 15' 10-weight.
