{"id":250,"date":"2018-01-09T11:27:31","date_gmt":"2018-01-09T11:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sexyloops.com\/flycast\/?p=250"},"modified":"2018-10-24T12:30:29","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T11:30:29","slug":"the-reach-cast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sexyloops.com\/flycast\/the-reach-cast\/","title":{"rendered":"The Reach Cast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/249913823?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Reach Cast &#8211; also called the Reach Mend [sorry about that &#8211; it&#8217;s because of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sexyloops.co.uk\/theboard\/\">Sexyloops Board<\/a>, where many years ago we pointed out that the Reach Cast is in fact a Mend, and then the FFF decided to rename it (not my decision!!!)].<\/p>\n<p>Key Points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Loop is cast in the vertical plane and then the rod is reached over to one side.<\/li>\n<li>The fly line should form a straight line from rod tip to fly.<\/li>\n<li>You can shoot line into the Reach or not. Not shooting line pulls the fly closer &#8211; and is a useful way of shortening line to present to a fish that appears closer than expected! Designed for you by Paul Arden.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Practical Uses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The main use for a Reach Cast\/Mend is to overcome drag situations when casting across currents.<\/li>\n<li>It can be used for casting around an obstruction.<\/li>\n<li>It can also be used to shorten the delivery.<\/li>\n<li>It can be used to position the line along a bank or weed bed for retrieving the fly in a fish-catching manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After the Collapsed Cast, the Reach Cast is your second most useful presentation cast. It is the only Presentation Cast that results in a straight line configuration.<\/p>\n<p>Got a question?
