The Wiggle Cast

The Wiggle Cast is an interesting Cast not least because it’s actually a Wiggle Mend (let’s not go there!), but really it’s just actually not a very useful Cast – despite being widely taught. It is supposedly useful for casting across currents (better to use a Reach Cast) or for casting downstream (better to use a Collapsed Cast or a Parachute Cast).

So why is it taught, you might well ask? That’s a very good question! It’s a useful “control exercise” and in part teaches you to make aerialised mends. Consequently it is something you should learn, but for fishing it’s not a top-priority cast!

It’s an exploration. Bring a fly rod. Designed for you by Paul Arden.
