This is the Snake Roll. I believe my good friend Simon Gawesworth may actually have invented this cast. It is a very useful cast and there are many funky variations of this cast, which we’ll cover later.
The Snake Roll and the Double Spey are used in the same situation – ie downstream wind. Both casts are necessary to learn because heavy flies and sink tip lines don’t Snake Roll well, and may knock you unconscious. Where the Snake Roll comes into its own, is for speed, delicacy and easier extreme angle changes.
